More important than any success in the show or field trial arena is providing sound healthy labradors for families who wish to share their lives with the best dog breed on earth.
Over forty years of breeding I have made many wonderful friendships with the owners of my puppies all over New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Many have made great efforts to keep in touch & plenty have come back to me for
their second or third Southerly labrador. I value these friendships highly and am delighted to be able to place puppies in such wonderful homes.
Joan Antrobus joined me in Southerly when together we
decided to import Barley & Emma from Marleen & David Hepper of Mardas Kennels UK. Together we have bred and shown some wonderful labradors by combining my original lines with these Mardas imports.
Subsequently further new genetic input came from Chocorua's Southerly Seafarer and the use of frozen semen imported from UK, Finland, USA & Holland
Specially we thank those who took puppies with potential and with much committment acheived Show or Field Trial Championship success.
Ian and Jenny Hendren took Honey and did such a wonderful job with her - she was a 'delight' thank you both
I knew Stephen & Gaynor Meredith were looking for a black dog and invited them to come and look at "Tommy" at eight weeks of age.
They were captivated like I was and took him home as a young puppy. With their wonderful skill and commitment this puppy became the very first Labrador Grand Champion in New Zealand.
On the way he won the Pedigree Pal New Zealand Dog of the Year at the big black tie indoor event - the only Labrador ever to acheive such success.
He was a real star and went on to win his second BISS at the Labrador Club Show from Veteran Class. He was the sire of Am. Can Ch Southerly Outward Bound JH, the first New Zealand bred Labador to win BISS in the United States of America.
Reilly was a beautiful puppy and we were so lucky to have friends Peter & Jan Wallace take him and show him so well.
He won everything on his way to becoming only the second Labrador to become a NZ Grand Champion
She used to talk as puppy and was given the nickname 'Spinner" as in "spinner of yarns/tales'
'Kahui'is owned by April Cooper - thanks April for all the care and hard work showing him. He is by April's imported Australian Stud dog NZCh Westlander Apache.
One point short of his Championship title but was Reserve Best in Show at the Labrador Club Championship Show in 2003. He ceased to be shown as Jane started a family. My thanks to Jane Hands (nee Atherton) for her loving
care with "Bosley"
